Lifting in the lineout at under 16 Level (Club & School) PDF Print E-mail

Lifting in the lineout at under 16 Level (Club & School).

Please note that at U16 level players may lift in the lineout.  However the lifting / supporting players may only lift by grasping the jumpers shorts.  This means that any gripping on the thighs in the act of lifting is not allowed.  The sanction is a full penalty awarded on the 15 metre line to the non offending team.  In terms of management by you as referees an effective preventative approach should limit the number of penalties having to be awarded.

Players at this level are not permitted to wear strapping on the thighs that facilitates gripping by support lifters.  If noticed by referee the player(s) should be asked to remove the strapping.

Please see the following link for all underage variations:

It is vital that we do our best to ensure we apply the regulations correctly and consistently and your efforts in this regard are much appreciated.

Should you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact me or speak with me at our next monthly meeting.
